Bokeelia sits about 16 miles from our shop in Punta Gorda, and the houses out here trend a bit newer than the median for the wider service area. Most homes here went up around 1988, which puts a lot of garage doors and openers into a specific window: post-1985 steel sectional doors, chain-drive or early screw-drive openers, and torsion springs sized for the heavier insulated panels that started showing up in that era. That's different from the older side-mount, one-piece doors you'll find in some of the pre-1980 pockets closer to town. If your door and opener are original to the house, they're pushing 35+ years old, which is well past the working life of most torsion springs and well into the range where opener circuit boards start failing instead of just belts and gears.
Because the build era here skews to the mid-to-late 80s, we see less of the ancient one-piece hardware and more of the extension-spring and early-torsion setups that were standard sectional-door gear at the time. Parts for that generation are still out there, but not every big-box store carries them, so a same-brand match sometimes takes an extra call.
